Window Treatments Conservatory Interior Design Ideas Seasonal Vertical Blinds

Different season, different window treatments and skylight design. And here some tips about window treatments design ideas for seasonal variations in sun angles.

In winter, the sun travels in a low arc across the sky, during the summer months the arc is much higher. This allows the winter sun to penetrate deeper into a room through a south-facing window (north-facing in the southern hemisphere) then the summer sun.

The amount of sunlight entering a skylight during the winter months depends on the angle of the skylight, the shape of the light shaft, and the latitude of your home.

If you want heat gain in winter for your home interior design, you can have either a south-facing window design or a properly designed skylight and light shaft. But you can place a skylight so light reaches areas of a room that light from a window may not reach.

A skylight can give you a better distribution of light as well. These are important considerations if you intend to use the window or skylight for passive solar purposes.

In the summer, though, a south-facing skylight, unless shaded, will bring in more direct light and heat than a window for your home interior. If the window design has an overhang, the degree of penetration of the summer sun into your home is reduce even more.

In a cold climate, a north-facing skylight may be better than a north-facing window, because an opening in the roof gives almost five times more light than an equivalent opening in the wall with approximately the same amount of heat loss.
